  • Colleges collaboration with LEP hailed as ‘a great example’

    Colleges, Universities and skills providers in the Leeds City Region have come together to work with the Leeds City Region LEP Employment and Skills Board to meet the skills needs of the city region’s employers.

    The Leeds City Region Skills Network will provide a partnership approach in responding to the Local Enterprise Partnership’s vision to anticipate and meet the needs of employers.

    The network, which is chaired by Michele Sutton - Principal at Bradford College, has been recognised as ‘a great example of joint working that I hope other LEPs will follow’ by Geoff Russell, Chief Executive of the Skills Funding Agency.

    Louise Tearle, Partnership Director for WYCC added ‘The West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges were instrumental in establishing the Skills Network and our focus is to continue to maintain strong links with employers.’

  • Funding Opportunities Still Available to Employers

    Access to 50% funding support towards the cost of various training courses is still available to employers.
    The Skills Enhancement Fund, which has already provided part-funded training to over 10,000 companies throughout the region, was awarded to the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges in 2009 with Calderdale College as the accountable body.

  • WYCC works with Local Enterprise Partnerships

    West Yorkshire Colleges are working with the Leeds City Region* Local Enterprise Partnership in a number of ways to promote collaborative working between training providers and employers.
    Through a newly formed Skills Network, Chaired by Michele Sutton OBE – Principal of Bradford College, FE Colleges, Universities, Private Training Providers, Voluntary sector skills providers and Lifelong Learning Networks come together with the aim of supporting individuals to gain sustainable employment and to stimulate the growth of jobs and investment in the Leeds City Region economy.

  • WYCC gets a mention in the House of Commons

    In response to questions regarding the potential role of further education colleges in the work of LEPS, Mr Mark Prisk, The Minister of State, Department for Business of Innovation and Skills said:

    “I am pleased to report that further education colleges are already playing a role with local enterprise partnerships in the north-east and elsewhere. In Yorkshire, the Leeds City Region held its first skills conference with the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges and it is now setting up its own skills network. That is one of several examples.”
